ouch.

ok so i don't want to use the word MISERABLE...yet.

i think i should save that particular adjective for a later date...since i have WEEKS to go and it will be like the boy who cried wolf if i use it now!

but seriously guys, this is getting interesting. i am thankful that it's been easy breezy up until about 30 weeks...but here i sit at 34 weeks, waking up every.single.hour. during the night, either to pee or roll over (which hurts, by the way). roaming the house at 5am, trying out some yoga positions to help ease the pain in my hips. no fair! i do not appreciate nature "training" me to sleep less in preperation for baby! i had firm plans to sleep till noon every day if i could to savor the luxury of sleep (my favorite thing to do), which i would all too soon be giving up for the love of my unborn child. this is bullcrap!

no sitting, standing, or lying down position is comfortable in any way, so i just have to bite my tongue and pretend that do not want to rip my own hair out. bah!

ok thanks for letting me get that out...on another note: mk and rachel hosted a baby shower for me last night!!! it was so great. so good to get all the girls together! everyone was so generous, and made such yummy treats by the way! thanks to everyone who came, and big thanks to mk and rachel, it was awesome! i love my tahoe family! i will put up some pictures soon.

duncan had all the boys over to his house while us girls were at mk's. he made a banner that said "when the girls get together, the boys do it better!" he's so competitive!  ;)

long time no blog

hello blog readers,

i have gotten requests for a picture of me. this was taken last week:

dexter really wanted in on that pic.

oh! i finished the dresser also:

complete with cute little ceramic knobs! here's a close-up of those pictures on the dresser:

baby jamie and baby kristen!! at about the same age...6-8 months. i have way more hair than you jamie. i actually came out with a full head of black hair, so much that when the nurses at the hospital cleaned me up and brought me to my mother and father, they had made a little ponytail on the top of my head. jamie's openly hoping and praying for a blond child...but don't forget we also have redheads on both sides of the family! and it just so happens that two of my favorite children are redheads: little betty eckles who is almost three, and maddie who i used to coach at squaw...i think she's almost 12 now!!! what do you think baby lavalle is going to look like? and born with a full head of hair or bald as can be?? i heard that if you have heartburn your baby has a lot of hair...i have NO heartburn...hmmm...

baby's current favorite position is shoulders sticking out on my right side right above my hip and feet kicking out on my left side right below my ribs (she's head down)...does that make sense? she frequently stretches out. she seems LARGE. but doc assures me she is on track to be about 7 1/2 lbs by birth.

we finished our birthing class...it was awesome. it focused a lot on jamie's role during labor and birth, and although i saw the color drain out of his face more than once, and we giggled like 7th graders while practicing pushing positions on the mats (great night to wear a skirt, kristen), i think he's feeling much more confident. and maybe even excited....?

i will leave you with a little picture of fluffy cuteness:

Doggie notions

Turtle and Dexter are clearly the apples of our eyes....
They are beginning to figure out that something is going on.

Obviously Kristen has a belly, but let's focus on the important things in their world, the guest bed.
The guest bed served as a comfortable, semi-private, nap and/or full nights' sleep location for our dogs.  Now clearly something is afoot; the once convenient bed that the dogs shared is gone, a smaller bed with a protective fence replaced it; and no dogs are allowed to hang out in the once-guest room, now-nursery.

Dexter maintains a sharp focus on activities in the forest and the state of our outside surroundings.  So Dexter spends his days (those that are not rainy) outside and is perfectly happy to sleep on the appropriately named 'doggie bed' on the living room floor.  Turtle, on the other hand, is a 'dog of leisure.' He insists on sleeping on a bed or couch for approximately 22 hours a day.  Turtle is, of course, very cute when he jumps on the couch and curls up on top a throw pillow as if he were getting ready for some sort of 'relaxation competition.'

About a month ago, after his morning walk and breakfast, Turtle decided to make a daily ritual out of getting some sleep in our bed; on my pillow, next to Kristen, for a couple hours in the morning.  Every morning I am at the computer, Dexter is outside securing the perimeter and Turtle is making sure Kristen is getting the sleep she needs in the last 8 or so weeks of her pregnancy.  This seemed cute and like a form of protection for an expectant mother which has become a very endearing trait of Turtle's.

However, last night Turtle decided that; since I was asleep on the couch at 11pm, somebody needed to sleep with Kristen and that was his responsibility.  When I groggily wandered into bed around 1am, Turtle was fast a sleep on my pillow.  I merely accepted the result of my tardiness and went to sleep with Turtle above my head like a horizontal canine version of Carmen Miranda.

Everyone was tired enough that the situation lasted about 4 hours...when Turtle started snoring.  Trying to share a bed with an uncomfortable pregnant lady and a snoring dog is less than ideal for yours truly.  Considering that in a few months cry, feed and poop all-nighters will become the norm here on Ponderosa Drive, Kristen and I decided to take some action and poke Turtle until he woke and decided that he was too uncomfortable and would have settle for the couch.  Turtle's snoring turned to the most self-pitying groaning any one has heard from a dog, and most humans for that matter.  After what seemed like an hour of prodding and the closest thing to complaining most dogs are capable of, Turtle conceded his pillow, which was actually my pillow, and headed for the couch.

Tonight I will be heading to bed early in order to establish rank with my little tri-colored counterpart and I will wish our dogs a good night's sleep; Dexter on his 'doggie bed' where dogs sleep and Turtle on our couch, where apparently Turtles sleep.

keeping that nugget safe

this is why i love being pregnant: right now i feel like a good mom! baby is all warm and comfy in there, and i can protect her. we have this amazing connection that we'll never have again, and being a woman i feel honored to have this experience.

what scares me to death: someday (soon) baby will be an outside baby...and i wont be able to protect her like i can now. scary stuff.

two nights ago i had a contraction that woke me up at about 5am. and i KNEW this was a contraction. i mean...you just know. i laid in bed in complete fear and terror that they would continue and i would go into a very real labor that the doctors would be unable to stop and my 31 week old baby would be in the NICU for months. um, yeah...it's completely normal for mommies to  have contractions for WEEKS before they go into actual labor. deep breaths...i didn't have another one, just missed out on three hours of sleep and proceeded to have the weepiest day ever.

so last night jamie and i did the natural thing for pregnant parents to do, and played some music for the little one to lullaby her to sleep (she wasn't going to sleep anytime soon). i can't believe we hadn't done this sooner...

please excuse my busted face...i had just finished crying because of reasons mentioned above. it was an emotional day, okay people?? but jamie knows how to make me feel better.

baby's first song? paul simon's "born at the right time". keep baking in there, nugget!

diy mania

i have to start out by saying that my dad did not like me posting about being "felt up" by debbie! "it must be a generational thing" is what he told me...well, this is a personal blog, where i am going to write about taboo preggo stuff that i'm experiencing, so if you can't take the heat....skip over it ;)

leslie and i were talking about this today, and we both agreed that women in the 70+ range are the most likely people to grab and caress your pregnant belly. i think this might be a "hunny, i've totally been there let me see that bump" thing, and as long as you don't mind, it is totally amusing. i think i would have minded in the early weeks, when my belly consisted of a beer belly that i could no longer suck in...but now i don't mind. but don't get any ideas people, i'm ONLY talking about old ladies!!!

here are a couple fun additions to baby lavalle's room. i got the cutest curtains and tiebacks form urban outfitters (thanks mom for the gift certificate last christmas!!) that look super cute:

and how cute are these tiebacks:

and together:

i also found an ugly old nightstand on craigslist for $10. here's the before picture:

(i didn't remember to take the picture until after i had sanded and started painting...woops!)
and here it is finished! i didn't go in the direction i originally planned, it just sort of happened:

i lined the drawer with some fun paper. and i got new knobs, one for this nightstand and some for the dresser, but i haven't received them yet.

okay, hope i didn't bore you all too much with my fun diy projects. on another note, jamie and i started our childbirth classes tonight (jamie's going to be an amazing coach for me!) and turtle has seriously begun to stink really bad. like...really bad. but i can get out of doggy bathtime, right?
